LAND OF OPPORTUNITY
Moving first into planting fruit bearing trees the way we see it at Treespaces.io, will give clear advantages to all. As others will gradually start to see, monoculture is not the proper way of doing, as you need tree guilds. One needs harmony between trees growing fast and slow & it must be wisely done. Brazil has an interesting project in this regard, using the ROAM methodology. (We will present more examples in future blogposts… There are plenty of interesting projects ongoing.) It is all about matching the right kind of plant-tree combinations in the right kind of areas, involving local communities. Our mission is all about helping people with whatever they need to get their share of tree planting and tree nursing done. We consciously choose fruit bearing trees, as we must simultaneously consider the food surface on our whole planet as well… Making those venues a balance between people available to nurse small plants, to care for the growing ones, whilst not overloading them with people, as well. So, nature can also go about its way without always having human presence pressuring its natural processes.
It is and will always be a balancing act. On one hand, we want to let nature be, on the other hand we need to help nature a hand. As we too are a part of nature, in a positive way, we may want to qualify this as nature helping nature a hand? Humans are too often negatively portrayed as a bunch of parasites crawling over each other, destroying nature under the so-called ghastly flag of neoliberal capitalism. This is utterly sad and depressing, albeit somewhat very real. Holostic captalism may be a decent and acceptable way forward. The good part of this play, is that we humans have the capacity of turning this tragedy around through combined effort. It is as if we can reclaim our collective human dignity. It simply requires a different market and marketing strategy, in line of ESG requirements. (Environmental. Social. Governance.) There is still time, even though time seems to be running out (all the time?) The climate crisis as such is a vast opportunity, which we are bound to grasp. Former generations had to find solutions to a growing population and had to do so fast. The consequence has been a real destruction through linear if not exponential (ab)use of resources, as well as dogmatical linear thinking in terms of absolute growth. We were bound to hit the limits of this approach, but we also needed to feed people and provide housing… Though the game hasn’t always been played fair, to say the least, humanity’s historical decisions also had underlying reasons. At least partially, the intent of former generations was actually good, as well as borne out of practical necessity.
Doing ‘good’ obviously came at a very high cost, which current generations are confronted with. Some of us would have loved to see some realisation happen earlier, say seventies of past century? Alas, it did take us a half a century longer to collectively awaken to the fact that there are limits to classical, neo-liberal growth. By now, to most of us it is clear that it is more smart to align with nature, which tends to show more circular design. Also technology had to grow to a point where solar panels, for instance, and the internet would give us the opportunity to get organised in a vastly refreshing way. Though the crisis cuts deep into our daily lives, we should resist succumbing to fatalistic depression. The situation is not nearly as bad as some doomsday people are projecting us. On the contrary, we now have way more tools at hand to steer our human destiny towards a future which can actually be bright. The path may seem chillingly narrow, but there is a path forard possible. The sacrifices mustn’t be laughed at, nor underestimated, yet somehow we shall overcome. The power of humanity as an ingenuous collective, similar to what we see in bee hives, or ant colonies, is a viable force towards positive change, towards a future which can be better for generations to come. As long as we cooperate and stick together as a community, anything is possibl. Undoubtedly, it will require strength and perseverance. But we have the tools at the fingertips of our hands. Treespaces.io intends to act as an inspiration, a very concrete example of how we can re-combine existing tools, initiating a conscious collective building process towards a more healthy and balanced future.
Inaction would be irresponsible and more costly than behaving pro-actively. We can not overrate the importance of this insight. And luckily the greater part of humanity has well understood this, by now. And yes, we must navigate amongst the predators, maybe wait for some dinosaurs yet to go extinct, or minimally trip over their own shoelaces. Nobody said it was going to be easy... Nonetheless, current dynamics are in favour of the brave. Surely, the brave will have to deal with the cunning? But the cunning must also realise we are nearing a fundamental tipping point. It is no longer a brutal choice between sustainability and profitability, both henceforth go hand in hand. Companies and communities alike, can effectively and efficiently gain first mover advantage. There is a natural rewarding process ongoing, pointing directly towards a more circular economy. The cost price tied to the rapid increase in climate change and resulting natural disasters is accelerating the change in the way we (will) do business & how we organise our communities. The zero waste movement is no longer an illusion of delirious hippies. Especially, since micro-plastics has been found in the blood of the rich kids, as well. Which may sound crude, but also hits the nail in the soft spot.
Just imagine the benefit generated by a switch from micro-plastic washing powder to soap nuts? The cunning will want to slow down such an idea & still try to propagate classical washing powders, but eventually the balance will tip towards the more circular and ecological alternative(s.) The trick will be to connect with those enterprises and actively engage them within the framework of our game, so they too can reap benefits and rewards. This is where competition gets a whole new meaning, due to this surprising, albeit natural twist in humanity’s historical plot. This is not a story of us and them, neither is it a choice between us or them. This is an exponential win-win for all of us. And we must go about it in such a way that we build bridges instead of burning them. If it benefits all, and the move as such is non-radical as well as gradual, success is guaranteed. The power of the tech enables us to rebalance the rewarding mechanisms in favour of cooperation. If we can give a growing stake to those now controlling the washing powder industry, why should they oppose or obstruct a move towards a more circular approach? Stubbornness? Pride? The economical case can be perfectly made, (even) though the calculation for such a global transition would/will require some in depth analysis. We are talking about a market expected to reach 205.2 billion by 2025, for laundry detergents alone. That not only represents a gigantic opportunity, it also a gigantic power conglomerate which we can, nor should neglect. This is an inclusive story, all-inclusive. This is not a fight, it is a move to be made in concert, through mutual agreement and cooperation. A move everyone stands to benefit from. No more no less. A gradual move, as, for instance the Sapindus Mucorossi (Indian Soapberry) needs ten years to fruition… Again, futures are a great financial tool to bring this tectonic shift about.
Planting fruit bearing trees, nursing them, growing these, is costly business. But above numbers should work inspiring for the careful reader. And this is only one example. We are looking at a much broader scope. But it requires activating the whole of humanity, and is directly intertwined with food, energy and water supplies. There is no way around that. The hungry or thirsty cannot protect, nor care for one single tree. Food and water supply go hand in hand with tree nurturing. Futhermore, rewarding education is equally part of our game. There is no plan B, or a viable escape route. Bezos knows this. Musk knows this. It is not a big secret. Bill Gates knows this. Richard Branson knows this. What we propose here is no more outlandish than building space colonies. It is just a matter of rebalancing our priorities. One sure way to preserve biodiversity is taking care of our soil. Of course, there are algae as well, and plenty of other means to that end. We should consider all viable ways, leave no ground uncovered and turn around every droplet. The ground we walk upon is sacred. Point being, there is a path. We can do this! Yet, we must walk this path together… Mother Earth is so powerful, she will show us the way through the mirroring existence/evolution of viruses. There is no escape. She will keep us in line & clearly show us which boundaries we must uphold. Covid19 has been a severe reality check, in that regard. And our means of defence towards more complex viruses will go hand in hand with an increased respect of our soil, as we will have to protect mycelia, which will turn out to be crucial in our handling of more complex types of viruses. This is valid for us humans, but as well has serious implications towards bee colonies, which too are necessary for our survival.
Everything is interrelated. Consciousness is a network. Mycelia are a network. The internet is a network. All in all affects us all. There is no escape from sound circular socio-economic thinking. Either we step in line as humanity, either we get squashed like a plague of parasites. The choice will be fully ours. We have to thoroughly and positively own this. There is no way to circumvent Nature. Nature is an inside job. And humanity is starting to awaken to that given. Partitioning Earth into a myriad of parcels of land, was brought about by an ownership principle destined to devour every square inch of our planet. One resulting benefit of this systematic procedure over several centuries, if not millennia, is expressed in this indisputable advantage: our capacity to truly register every inch of our planet. This allows us to set up material passports for any construction on our planet and beyond. Tracking materials is a vital element to be able to build a fully circular economy, as well as come to necessary reductions in carbon emissions. Here again we are touching upon gigantic markets. The Global Construction & Building Materials Market size (alone) was estimated at USD 916.31 billion in 2019. Furthermore, property that can (organically?) capture a part of that carbon will go up in value. Beyond planting trees, we can use moss and so forth to enhance the capacity of lowering CO2, as many simultaneous actions are possible, and will materialise, if we remain focused. The list is too long to cover in full here. But it should be clear the opportunities are gigantic.
Combine this with the blockchain/crypto tech’s ability to tokenise almost anything… for instance, one building and/or piece of land being owned by a million people is relatively easy to design. Treespaces can buy land and/or buildings, through collaboration or partnerships, or as a community itself. (Ecosphere Ventures Ltd. will be created to this end during October 2024.) The ownership can be fractionalised over plenty of stakeholders, through a multitude of imaginable combinations and trade-offs. Property can be represented by private blockchains, NFT land titles, or even cryptocurrencies. It can be done combining these in a more hybrid format, combining private and public blockchains. It can be done singularity through NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens.) It can be done through a combination of cryptocurrencies and NFTs… Moreover, it is perfectly possible to reflect digital twins. The land can be copied into the digital Metaverse, giving it a virtual counterpart. Just as virtual worlds and universes can exist in addition to the real world. Similar to lego blocks, combinations are sheer endless. Point being that every single one of those markets represent an enormous value, which we can enhance to our liking (planting trees, making buildings circular, ready these for overnight stays and so on.) We can reward work and actions with real ownership. It solves many problems in many ways. Water. Food. Energy. Education. Sense of pride, identity and community. And we can organise this in a democratic way, through proper introduction of voting mechanisms. Everybody benefits: small up to large stakeholders. We achieve these goals over time in a playful way, within required legal frameworks, keeping excessive disruption at bay, as it will happen gradually over time, so all parties can benefit.
People novice towards blockchain and cryptocurrencies may need some time to absorb all this information. We know it is written very condense. We are not propagating communism, fascism or some kind of idealistic or ideal state, but rather are serving you what the consequence of Web 3.0 will be. It is a more fluid expression of how property is organised, as well as how work will evolve through very flexible rewarding mechanisms. It all has to do with assets formerly illiquid, becoming fully liquid. Owning a tiny fraction of a property becomes as simple as a mouse click, the buying and selling process will be as easy as buying groceries. Our games and corresponding applications will give access to external as well as internal decentralised markets. So, it becomes super easy and comfortable to step in or out, at your will. We will write more on this obviously. This text may (partially) serve as an introduction to how our overal project will be backed by real and tangible value, as well as a clear indication of the increasing amount of transactions over time.
This is the reason why our build-up is slow but steady. We must present to you several components in order for you to able to fully understand what we are doing and why it will work. Economies thrive on added value. Thus the whole of society benefits. A blockchain or cryptocurrency ecosystem thrives on increasing transactions. Both objectives are within reach of our gameplay. We will add culturally agnostic capacity, to avoid unnecessary political struggle. Our gameplay will allow for different fractions. As an example we refer to the white paper of Star Atlas. However, that will be subject of more profound exploration in future blogposts. To be noted that we wish to proceed through peaceful co-existence, though some competition is a necessary component of any game aspiring to be exciting... The beauty is we can help the world’s economy become net-zero. We will do so through our games, as well as our (treespaces.io target) app providing Trees-as-a-Service (TaaS.) We are here to help accelerate action on climate change and sustainability. And we can do so by capturing value in various industries, such as real estate, green tech, water and food supply chains, washing, detergents, perfume industry, health industry, eco tourism and obviously gaming, as well as many more. As we have shown here, and will continue to show: sustainability, regeneration and profitability go hand in hand.
